Voices of angels in our midst

Our men, women and children had a very special treat this week.  University High School Chorus with their conductor and keyboard accompaniment entertained all during lunch. It was quite the sing-a-long at times with all joining in for the familiar Christmas carols. What a festive atmosphere!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here at St. John's we try our best to make those we serve part of our family and indeed they are, and so are you. Thank you for making this possible, not only during the holiday season but throughout the whole year.

Thank you to all our Veterans...

John F. Kennedy said, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them".

Our Veterans have been sacrificing for our country since the days of George Washington at Valley Forge... and continue to do so to

Happy Anniversary!

It's 7 years this month since we established our Women and Children's Center. It is thriving, having gone from serving 30 women and children in its early days to serving over 100 today, an unfortunate testament to the many people falling into poverty. Under the tireless and energetic leadership of Sr. Jane McKenna,

You are invited!

Dear Friends,

Through the mercy and love of God, small miracles happen daily at St. John's. The greatest miracle is the service given by so many of you who support our Women and Children's Center, our Medical Clinic, and our meal program. I would like the opportunity to thank

Our NJ Devils aka NJ Angels!

Some members of the staff of the NJ Devils came to serve breakfast and lunch to our men, women and children.  They were so helpful in getting our turkey luncheon prepared. While an extremely popular meal, it is also very labor-intensive. What a fun group they are too!

Thank you for all you do!

I don't know about you, but I am still savoring Pope Francis' visit and message to our country.

There is so much to do in our cities and in the world for the poor, the homeless, children, for young people, the elderly, for the family. Pope Francis left us with

More angels among us...

We were blessed yesterday with a brand new group of volunteers from K&L Gates, a local law firm. As it was the end of the month when our homeless and needy have used up all their resources, we were presented with a line stretching down McCarter Highway, and our Women & Children's Center

A Garden for St. John's

If you live in Jersey you know there's nothing like a home-grown Jersey tomato! One of our donors with a surplus of vegetables from her garden was ready to resort to leaving the bounty on her neighbors' doorsteps until it occurred to her that the needy on our line might

Last cookout of the summer

Last weekend we bade a farewell to summer under threatening skies with a cookout in our parking lot for over 300 of our homeless and needy. It was sponsored by Faith Lutheran Church of New Providence who provided burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, beans and soooooo many trays of homemade desserts.

We pray for all of those who are employed that they may experience a restful weekend.

We especially pray for those seeking employment that God may grant them perseverance in their quest and hope for the future.

School bells are ringing in Newark...

Incredible to know that summer is soon coming to an end as TV commercials are promoting "Back to School Sales" and stores are bringing out fall-season clothing to greet students ready for a new school year. I ask myself, when less-fortunate children and their parents see these commercials, what goes
