What would Jesus do?

When I awoke this morning and being aware of the frigid temperatures coming upon us this weekend, I could not help thinking about our homeless brothers and sisters on the streets of Newark. As soon as I arrived at St. John's I noticed our friends bundled up rushing to get

Because of your abundant generosity...

We wanted to share this letter with all of you to thank you for making so much possible here at St. John's. During the recent snowstorm and bitter cold, we were able to assist the entire Newark community by sending food and care packages to the City's Warming Center. On

Time for Resolutions!

As this New Year begins, what resolutions should we make?   Faith, Hope and Charity are good places to start.

Faith that God will help us see the light of Christ.

Hope that our needy will be remembered and taken care of.

Blessings to you this Christmas

It is moving to see how the world is transformed during the Christmas season, not only in the external sense with decorations, lights, songs of joy and peace playing on the radio waves, but also internally. Hearts are softened and moved with compassion toward others and as a result many

Voices of angels in our midst

Our men, women and children had a very special treat this week.  University High School Chorus with their conductor and keyboard accompaniment entertained all during lunch. It was quite the sing-a-long at times with all joining in for the familiar Christmas carols. What a festive atmosphere!

Thank you to all our Veterans...

John F. Kennedy said, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them".

Our Veterans have been sacrificing for our country since the days of George Washington at Valley Forge... and continue to do so to

Happy Anniversary!

It's 7 years this month since we established our Women and Children's Center. It is thriving, having gone from serving 30 women and children in its early days to serving over 100 today, an unfortunate testament to the many people falling into poverty. Under the tireless and energetic leadership of Sr. Jane McKenna,

Dear Friends,

Through the mercy and love of God, small miracles happen daily at St. John's. The greatest miracle is the service given by so many of you who support our Women and Children's Center, our Medical Clinic, and our meal program. I would like the opportunity to thank

Our NJ Devils aka NJ Angels!

Some members of the staff of the NJ Devils came to serve breakfast and lunch to our men, women and children.  They were so helpful in getting our turkey luncheon prepared. While an extremely popular meal, it is also very labor-intensive. What a fun group they are too!

Thank you for all you do!

I don't know about you, but I am still savoring Pope Francis' visit and message to our country.

There is so much to do in our cities and in the world for the poor, the homeless, children, for young people, the elderly, for the family. Pope Francis left us with

More angels among us...

We were blessed yesterday with a brand new group of volunteers from K&L Gates, a local law firm. As it was the end of the month when our homeless and needy have used up all their resources, we were presented with a line stretching down McCarter Highway, and our Women & Children's Center
