It's 7 years this month since we established our Women and Children's Center. It is thriving, having gone from serving 30 women and children in its early days to serving over 100 today, an unfortunate testament to the many people falling into poverty. Under the tireless and energetic leadership of Sr. Jane McKenna, a core group of volunteers serve up a healthy breakfast and lunch. The Center affords our women and children a secure place off the streets for their meals and basic needs. Once again in August, we supplied more than 40 children with school supplies and uniforms to start the school year. All Newark schools require uniforms and our needy families cannot afford them. We are now gearing up for our Christmas gift program with all incoming donations of turkeys, toys and gifts to be distributed to the many families who would otherwise go without. While it is a constant challenge keeping up with demand, we know that with the help of all those who donate their time, talent and treasure we will continue in our Mission. On behalf of the women and children who come to our Center, we offer our thanks.
