Blessings to you this Christmas
It is moving to see how the world is transformed during the Christmas season, not only in the external sense with decorations, lights, songs of joy and peace playing on the radio waves, but also internally. Hearts are softened and moved with compassion toward others and as a result many lives are touched, leaving in us a desire for that spirit of love, peace, and joy to remain in the world.
Here at St. John's, we are blessed to live this experience year-round. We experience the spirit of love, joy, and peace when volunteers are preparing or serving meals, when families are given some of the basic needs a human being deserves, or when the heart of a volunteer is touched from a one-time visit and continues to offer his or her time over and again. The miracles are endless here at St. John's and all because of the love and compassion that emanate from this humble place.
St. John's is like a manger scene, humble, located on the outskirts of a city where the shepherds (the poor) come to find refuge and comfort. The Three Kings would be our donors bearing gifts to the poor with their financial support. The angels about the manger are our volunteers who faithfully assist. This manger reveals God's presence in the world. We are today's manger!
O Come Let Us Adore Him!
